Lie of comparison

Happy New Year! I pray that everyone’s new year is off to an incredible start. I took off over the holidays to enjoy extra time with my family. During that break, it allowed me time to reflect on the way I use social media, mainly Instagram and how it’s more of a blessing in my life, rather than something that is distracting or negative.

As a stay-at-home mom, it’s easy to feel isolated and overwhelmed with your 24-7 job, that’s why I enjoy the community of Instagram.
From the beginning, back in genesis 2 God said that “it’s not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” God designed people for relationships and to be in community together. Over the past years, I’ve developed many new healthy friendships through Instagram with other moms and women of faith. Even though I have never met some and we live in different states, we exchange Christmas cards and I truly enjoy watching their children grow up in their videos and posts. It’s also helped me to maintain friendships with family and friends who I don’t get the privilege of seeing each week. I’m so grateful for the little platform it has given me to share my heart on love light Mom life. While all these things are great, I wanted to get into how the lie of comparison and the enemy can sneak into our minds, on the daily, to kill, steal and destroy our joy.

It’s true that instagram is a highlight reel! Everyone puts their best of the best and I wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t spend much time on Facebook anymore. I love seeing my friends highlights and sharing mines. In these past weeks I’ve seen thousands of strangers come together in agreement and prayer for a little boy and his family who have been battling with a life threatening sickness from E. coli. What strength and love that sweet family must feel in such tough times. Community is beautiful.

No matter who you are or where you are in life, you can’t say that there has never been a time where comparison hasn’t popped in your mind. It seems to storm in on the days where you’re the most vulnerable. Whether it be someone’s selfies, house, relationship status, fitness goals, or kids, that ugly lie of comparison will catch you off guard.
The comparison that can steal my joy is when it comes to motherhood. My oldest son Zion was a late talker. Up until he was three years old he could only say three words. We had him in speech therapy, and even though I had peace and knew he was fine, and that he just chose to communicate differently, I was plagued with the thoughts of his not speaking was because I was not being a good enough mother. I would see progress in his speech and then go on Instagram to see a one year old sing the “happy birthday” song to their parent, when yet my three year old would only say a handful of words. I hurt and feared for him, yet I felt like I was failing at raising him. It would eat at me everyday until I finally surrendered it to God. He gave me peace and I knew deep down that his speech delay had nothing to do with the way I was mothering him. A week later it was like a flood of words and sentences came to him and it was like he woke up saying Mom I’m ready to use my words. This matured me in my faith and opened my eyes up to how I would allow the enemy to take over my thoughts.
There’s still days where I will see a 1 year old child potty trained before my 2 year old, or another 2 year old already talking in full sentences. As these negative thoughts of me not doing enough as a mom come flooding in, I literally put my phone down, and I address the emotions I’m feeling. Instead of letting these thoughts make me feel inadequate, I use them to inspire me. “Wow, maybe instead of going out adventuring all week, I’ll make a commitment to stay home this week to focus on potty training my child.” Or “Instead of letting my boys watch their favorite “Cars”movie on repeat, we can sit down and practice the alphabet and sounding out words.” It takes me 2 minutes to reset and it doesn’t damper my feelings or self worth.

“Shall we dance”

For our recent date night, Hoku and I took ballroom lessons for Marriage Mondays, an event our home church was hosting. Being that one of our favorite shows to watch is Dancing with the stars, we were so excited to learn the proper steps to the foxtrot. As we both have had some dance experience, we didn’t think it would be as challenging as it was. We enjoyed our time, but what really intrigued me was how much ballroom dancing correlates to a Christ centered Marriage. I just wanted to share some encouraging reminders of how to have a healthy marriage!

First off, in Ballroom, the Male always takes Lead. The woman follows his lead. When turning, he gently guides her to where they should go and is always looking out for what problems can occur on the dance floor, just like real life! He protects her. The female also can gently give him warnings or a squeeze if they’re headed to a collision or problem that he can’t see. They both rely on one another and most importantly they trust each other.
When in hold, both Male and female dance very close and they equally give their partners support. What was most challenging for me, is that you must have lots of patience! I felt like I was learning the steps a little quicker than Hoku, while he was still getting used to the unique counts. Just like in marriage, I sometimes feel that I have discernment about things that he may not understand. Just like noted before, the female can gently warn her partner, but we still have to be patient, pray, and have faith that our husbands will gain understanding.

I’m sure there is much more relevant points, but we only had a two hour class LOL. I hope this was a great reminder and a blessing to your marriage as it was to mines❤️

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to The Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Aloha for Jesus

It was such a pleasure to meet the owners of “Aloha for Jesus” this past weekend, at the Bloom conference, in Honolulu. I love supporting small kingdom minded  businesses, especially when they’re owned by Mom’s?

Aloha for Jesus is a fresh new Christian apparel company! They have a passion to share the Love and light of Jesus with a Local-Hawaiian flare.
I really love the simplicity of the design and how bold and clearly the love and praise for Jesus is portrayed! They have both women and men tees that are extra soft and cool for this hot summer weather. They also have a variety of hats, totes and purses.

Check out their website at and follow them on Instagram at @alohaforjesus

Summer fashion ’17

Shop Zoey Grace Summer Collection has arrived and will be released online very soon, just in time for the first official day of Summer this June.

I am honored to be a Brand Ambassador for Zoey Grace, a small online boutique that aims to empower women to be bold, brave, and beautiful in their walk with Christ. I wouldn’t represent anything less than what I thought was fashionable, yet tasteful.
In this collection, you’ll be sure to see lots of blush tones (Which is one of my favorite colors to wear!). Not to mention, the infamous lace honey punch romper, which is a staple piece for a date night or mommy’s night out!

Stay tuned and don’t forget to follow Shop Zoey Grace on Instagram for updates and promos. @shopzoeygrace

Happy Heart Day! When I was a little girl, I remember growing up always wishing that my birthday was on Valentine’s Day. I love the hearts, flowers, candy, and all the things that Valentine’s Day brings. I’d think to myself: “How cool would that be?! To have your Birthday associated with all that fun stuff?! I do not wish my birthday was on Valentine’s Day anymore, but, now I’m just thankful that I get a day to emphasize my LOVE for the men in my life. V-day is also the day before Hoku and I went on our first date. (You could say it is our dating anniversary). I get two back-to-back days of all that sweet-heart filled Mushy stuff!

We read it in scripture, we hear it in sermons, but I never could fully grasp the concept of how God could love and love us so unconditionally! He loves us NO MATTER WHAT! Once I became a mom, I have a better sense of the weight of His perfect love. We are His beloved! Even our love for our own children falls short in comparison to how much God loves you and I! It’s so crazy to fathom! I will always thank my boys for helping me to better understand God’s love! They teach me things everyday.

Whether your worldly expectations are met on Valentine’s Day or not, just remember how much you are valued and treasured by the One who has paid the ultimate sacrifice for us all! Happy Valentine’s Day. You are so loved!

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Happiest of New Years Friends!

What does your 2017 look like?
Instead of resolutions, Hoku and I usually pick one word and live by that word all year long. Last year, we chose to live intentionally: To be intentional in our growing relationship with Jesus, and to be more intentional with our friendships. There’s a big difference in having good intentions and actually living them out daily. We stuck with it all through 2016 and it has really shaped my character. For the first time, I feel proud of my self and the path our family is on. I still feel there is room for growth! We will be continuing to live by the word “intentional” on top of the goals we have set individually, in our marriage, with the boys, and as a family!

A year ago I read Bob Goff’s “Love Does” book for the first time. I’m planning on reading it again this week. Bob Goff shows some amazing examples on how to love extravagantly. I discovered a newfound joy in helping others out of love. When you love someone you just do whatever it takes to show them that love. This book has given me a new perspective, not just with my family and friends, but, in how I show love and compassion to complete strangers. If you’re looking for a new read this new year, this book is a definite must!

Merry Christmas

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas! I have been Praying a blessing over all of you this season! Thank you so much for supporting my blog. Your encouragement goes beyond words, and I am so grateful! Have a beautiful day Praising our King Jesus Christ!

Merry Christmas with Love,

Farmhouse Christmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! A time where we get the opportunity to bless others. A season to be kinder, but most of all, to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Some people may call me festive, but decorating my house for Christmas is more than just the decor and flocked tree. It’s a way of worship and glorifying Jesus!
It’s the busiest time of the year for my family. Birthday after Birthday on top of all the Christmas festivities. No matter how busy and tired I can get from this season, I will always make time to go above and beyond to make my home special for my boys. That way, they will grow up loving that Christmas spirit.

Every year I change our theme, and this year I chose to go with a Farmhouse lumber jack plaid, with the vintage red truck with tree on top! Being a mother of boys, I’ve become pretty obsessed with vintage trucks.
There’s something about that farmhouse feel that makes your home look elegant, yet cozy at the same time! I love how everything turned out! My talented husband hit a home run again and made a mantel/faux fireplace that we will probably leave up all year long. He also built a barnyard fence to protect our tree from the two rugrats we have here at home. It’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing! Winning!
I can’t believe Christmas is here! I’m not quite ready to put away our Christmas decor. I might just leave it up until February!

Book review: The Magnolia Story

Just finished this great read!

I’m a huge Chip and Joanna Gaines fan. I love them so much, but, I didn’t expect their book to impact me in so many different areas of my life! It was encouraging! They have a huge fan base and are extremely successful, despite the fact, that they started from a humble beginning. They have so much in common with both you and I! Their story is very relatable and it really inspires you to go after your dreams. Whether you’re a business owner, or have a goal you wish to embark on, The Magnolia story will show you that it’s not out of reach when you have God and take a leap of faith. You don’t have to be huge fans, watch their show on HGTV, or even know who they are to be moved by their unique story. What’s also great, if you’re not much of a big reader, you can buy the audio book on iTunes and guess what?… It’s their voices!!! How cool is that?! Inside the book there are a few bonus pages with photos that reference the stories they share. Loved putting that connection together with a visual.

Joanna Gaines is such a great role model for us women, especially in this generation where fame and sex appeal is so heavily influenced. I admire her love for God, her husband + children, and of course, her interior design skills! My dream is to visit the Magnolia Market in Waco Texas, in the near future!

This book is on high demand along with their new amazing Magazine, The Magnolia journal. If you can’t find it at your local target, you can order it on

Today is a good day, for a good day!
