Staying healthy + fit has always been a top priority for me. Even before and after having my boys. It’s a challenge for any mom to carve out extra time for herself, let alone make it to the gym. My personal body goal is to not just be skinny, but to be lean with muscle definition, like I was before kids. Realistically, that would mean I would need to get to the gym 5x a week on top of dancing at night 5x a week to get my pre-baby bod back. That’s just not practical with my current schedule. I knew I needed something to amp up my workouts, but not take up too much time out of my day. That’s when I heard about Pure barre.
Pure barre is a 55 minute full body workout class. It’s low impact technique is designed to tone certain body parts while protecting your joints. A ballet barre is incorporated to help you with tiny isometric movements when working your thighs, seat, and abs. No prior dance experience is necessary to take a pure barre class. They promise you’ll see results by your 10th class, but I noticed major body changes by my 6th class. What’s great about pure barre is that no class is ever the same. You always get a full body workout, but the combos are always changing. You can never plateau because you always can go deeper, and bend lower, etc. You will hear terms like tuck, pulse, heavy tail bone, and find your shakes. Why do you want to shake like you’re in below zero cold weather? The shaking means your muscles are reaching the point of fatigue which is a good thing! The more you shake the faster you will get results. After working out each body section you will stretch out, to elongate your muscles which leads to long and lean muscles.
Before starting my first class, I didn’t know what to expect, let alone, even know if I would like it. I had no clue how hard it was going to be. In a good way it humbled me! After weightlifting for years and having trained for two bodybuilding competitions, there’s no way I thought it would even compare…Boy was I wrong! Through all my bodybuilding training sessions I’ve never pushed myself so hard in a full-body workout, in such a short amount of time, like I do at pure barre. I started my pure barre journey the first week of February. It’s been about four months now and it’s crazy how fast my body has responded. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life, and I love my body results even more now than I did before I had kids.
What I love most about pure barre is that women of all ages, shapes and sizes take these classes. Every time I go, I make a new friend, and the energy there is always so positive and encouraging. I never feel like it’s a competition of who looks the best or who’s been there the longest. Every instructor is so sweet. They remember your name starting from your first class and will consistently and personally cheer you on during your workout, It’s like a family. There are no levels in pure barre. The workouts are designed for all levels of fitness. Instead of aiming for a level, everyone aims to hit a certain number amount of classes. Pure barre makes a big deal when you hit your 100th class and 250th class etc. I’m just under my 50th class, but I’m really excited to hit that big 100!
Of course, like any other workout, the key to getting the best results is your diet, It plays a huge role in accomplishing your fitness goals. My biggest pet peeve is when people say I’m so lucky to be naturally skinny or say that I’m blessed with good genes. That is not true at all. I have to work hard for my body’s results. I eat pretty clean year round and for the last year or so I have been eating according to my blood type and cut out dairy and gluten from 90% of my diet. I have cheat days all the time and still enjoy life when I want to. It’s a sacrifice, but I want to make all my hard work worthwhile, plus, I feel so much better when I eat right!
