“Shall we dance”

For our recent date night, Hoku and I took ballroom lessons for Marriage Mondays, an event our home church was hosting. Being that one of our favorite shows to watch is Dancing with the stars, we were so excited to learn the proper steps to the foxtrot. As we both have had some dance experience, we didn’t think it would be as challenging as it was. We enjoyed our time, but what really intrigued me was how much ballroom dancing correlates to a Christ centered Marriage. I just wanted to share some encouraging reminders of how to have a healthy marriage!

First off, in Ballroom, the Male always takes Lead. The woman follows his lead. When turning, he gently guides her to where they should go and is always looking out for what problems can occur on the dance floor, just like real life! He protects her. The female also can gently give him warnings or a squeeze if they’re headed to a collision or problem that he can’t see. They both rely on one another and most importantly they trust each other.
When in hold, both Male and female dance very close and they equally give their partners support. What was most challenging for me, is that you must have lots of patience! I felt like I was learning the steps a little quicker than Hoku, while he was still getting used to the unique counts. Just like in marriage, I sometimes feel that I have discernment about things that he may not understand. Just like noted before, the female can gently warn her partner, but we still have to be patient, pray, and have faith that our husbands will gain understanding.

I’m sure there is much more relevant points, but we only had a two hour class LOL. I hope this was a great reminder and a blessing to your marriage as it was to mines❤️

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to The Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

Aloha for Jesus

It was such a pleasure to meet the owners of “Aloha for Jesus” this past weekend, at the Bloom conference, in Honolulu. I love supporting small kingdom minded  businesses, especially when they’re owned by Mom’s💗

Aloha for Jesus is a fresh new Christian apparel company! They have a passion to share the Love and light of Jesus with a Local-Hawaiian flare.
I really love the simplicity of the design and how bold and clearly the love and praise for Jesus is portrayed! They have both women and men tees that are extra soft and cool for this hot summer weather. They also have a variety of hats, totes and purses.

Check out their website at http://www.alohaforjesus.com and follow them on Instagram at @alohaforjesus

Summer fashion ’17

Shop Zoey Grace Summer Collection has arrived and will be released online very soon, just in time for the first official day of Summer this June.

I am honored to be a Brand Ambassador for Zoey Grace, a small online boutique that aims to empower women to be bold, brave, and beautiful in their walk with Christ. I wouldn’t represent anything less than what I thought was fashionable, yet tasteful.
In this collection, you’ll be sure to see lots of blush tones (Which is one of my favorite colors to wear!). Not to mention, the infamous lace honey punch romper, which is a staple piece for a date night or mommy’s night out!

Stay tuned and don’t forget to follow Shop Zoey Grace on Instagram for updates and promos. @shopzoeygrace

Pure barre Honolulu • lift •tone•burn

Staying healthy + fit has always been a top priority for me. Even before and after having my boys. It’s a challenge for any mom to carve out extra time for herself, let alone make it to the gym. My personal body goal is to not just be skinny, but to be lean with muscle definition, like I was before kids. Realistically, that would mean I would need to get to the gym 5x a week on top of dancing at night 5x a week to get my pre-baby bod back. That’s just not practical with my current schedule. I knew I needed something to amp up my workouts, but not take up too much time out of my day. That’s when I heard about Pure barre.

Pure barre is a 55 minute full body workout class. It’s low impact technique is designed to tone certain body parts while protecting your joints. A ballet barre is incorporated to help you with tiny isometric movements when working your thighs, seat, and abs. No prior dance experience is necessary to take a pure barre class. They promise you’ll see results by your 10th class, but I noticed major body changes by my 6th class. What’s great about pure barre is that no class is ever the same. You always get a full body workout, but the combos are always changing. You can never plateau because you always can go deeper, and bend lower, etc. You will hear terms like tuck, pulse, heavy tail bone, and find your shakes. Why do you want to shake like you’re in below zero cold weather? The shaking means your muscles are reaching the point of fatigue which is a good thing! The more you shake the faster you will get results. After working out each body section you will stretch out, to elongate your muscles which leads to long and lean muscles.

Before starting my first class, I didn’t know what to expect, let alone, even know if I would like it. I had no clue how hard it was going to be. In a good way it humbled me! After weightlifting for years and having trained for two bodybuilding competitions, there’s no way I thought it would even compare…Boy was I wrong! Through all my bodybuilding training sessions I’ve never pushed myself so hard in a full-body workout, in such a short amount of time, like I do at pure barre. I started my pure barre journey the first week of February. It’s been about four months now and it’s crazy how fast my body has responded. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life, and I love my body results even more now than I did before I had kids.

What I love most about pure barre is that women of all ages, shapes and sizes take these classes. Every time I go, I make a new friend, and the energy there is always so positive and encouraging. I never feel like it’s a competition of who looks the best or who’s been there the longest. Every instructor is so sweet. They remember your name starting from your first class and will consistently and personally cheer you on during your workout, It’s like a family. There are no levels in pure barre. The workouts are designed for all levels of fitness. Instead of aiming for a level, everyone aims to hit a certain number amount of classes. Pure barre makes a big deal when you hit your 100th class and 250th class etc. I’m just under my 50th class, but I’m really excited to hit that big 100!

Of course, like any other workout, the key to getting the best results is your diet, It plays a huge role in accomplishing your fitness goals. My biggest pet peeve is when people say I’m so lucky to be naturally skinny or say that I’m blessed with good genes. That is not true at all. I have to work hard for my body’s results. I eat pretty clean year round and for the last year or so I have been eating according to my blood type and cut out dairy and gluten from 90% of my diet. I have cheat days all the time and still enjoy life when I want to. It’s a sacrifice, but I want to make all my hard work worthwhile, plus, I feel so much better when I eat right!

I attend pure barre-Kahala located on the island of Oahu. If you’re interested in pure barre and want more information, check them out on their website http://purebarre.com/ or find them on Instagram at @purebarrehonolulu

Laying low at the Laylow

This past week we celebrated Hoku’s 35th birthday at the Laylow Autograph collection hotel. It’s newly renovated and a brand new Marriott hotel located on Kuhio street in Waikiki. They just opened in late March of this year, after seeing their photos, I knew we needed to check this place out. I’m so glad that we chose Laylow for our staycation, as it did not disappoint!

Upon arrival, the valet attendants warmly greeted us and assisted us to the elevator to get up to the lobby. This place is classy, where modern+ vintage Hawaii collide. As we checked in at the front desk, they immediately asked if we were celebrating anything special. After notifying the front desk of Hoku’s birthday, they then said that we would be able to have a late checkout because of it! With our stay, we got a free $50.00 voucher for any tours or activities that they have available through their concierge.

(A few weeks before our stay, I got an email from the activity concierge who just wanted to thank us for choosing to stay with them, and to see if I needed any assistance with restaurant reservations or tour activities. I thought that was a very personal way to welcome us before we even got there.)
As the front desk handed us our keys, she notified us that we had a complimentary basket in our room and that everything in the basket was ours to keep no charge.
When we walked into our room we immediately fell in love with the unique decor. The wallpaper is a cute vibrant pop of teal + pink monstera leaves. Everything in the room and bathroom were very impressive with that modern yet mid-century Hawaiian feel.

During the duration of our stay, every employee we encountered were so kind to us, but most importantly, to our boys. We never felt unwelcomed because we had kids with us or felt like we needed them to keep them quiet.
The pool was one of my favorite parts of our stay. It’s beautiful! They have these unique loungers in the pool that both Zion and Mateo enjoyed to splash around on. It felt very secluded and one day we had the whole pool to ourselves.

The night of Hoku’s birthday we had dinner reservations in the new International Market Place. The walk over was literally 2 minutes tops. The hotel is conveniently located between Nordstrom rack and the international market place. After dinner, we stopped by the Hideout in The Laylow hotel, located in the lobby and pool level. They have live music every night with such a wonderful ambience. They even have an area with a sand and fire pit that you can reserve for parties. As Hoku and I enjoyed a drink there, our server recognized that it was Hoku’s birthday because of his Lei he was wearing, and brought out a delicious bread pudding dessert on the house. This definitely surpassed our expectations.

In the mornings we enjoyed coffee and pastries from their little coffee shop. The worker was yet again a sweetheart to us and played with the boys while they sat in the stroller, and as she was making our order. I love that they even had spam musubis available, which made an easy meal at the pool.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We loved it so much, I already booked another stay in the month of June for my birthday. We got a good rate through Expedia, but they also have Kamaaina rates if you live locally on the islands. A bonus thing is this is a pet friendly hotel for those of you who love to bring your fur babies wherever you go.

Rodan + Fields Lash Boost Product Review

I’m sure by now you all have heard of the lash craze that Rodan + Fields has launched, with their new Lash boost serum. It promises Lush, longer-looking lashes with results as early as 4 weeks. After seeing all the progress photos I still had my doubts, because honestly the results looked too good to be true. How would such a dominating skin care company risk their integrity if the results weren’t real? It intrigued me enough to try it, and I’m so happy that I did, because my results are phenomenal.

After performing professionally and dancing, for so many years, I got used to wearing makeup daily and accustomed to having “stage makeup” on. I would never like to go out or take photos if I didn’t have false lashes on. I was told that you can’t see my eyes on stage when I smile because they were “too small” so I became very self-conscious. Wearing false lashes all the time boosted my confidence, but it’s so much work to add to your daily routine, plus having to deal with the irritation and heaviness all day. It’s not fun when the ends come off and poke your inner eye either lol. I’ve tried lash extensions which I love, but the upkeep maintenance was getting too costly. Also, I’m a mom, so let’s get real, it’s hard enough to make normal appointments, then to add lash extensions to my list. When Rodan + Fields came out with their Lash boost serum I was ready to give it a try. I apply it like I’m putting eyeliner on the top of my lid, once each night. Then, I go to sleep. It’s that simple! When you first start, you have to remember patience and consistency will give you the best results. If you’re looking for a product that’s going to change your lashes overnight, then this is not the product for you. I first started seeing results within the first 4 weeks of using the product, My lashes were definitely growing longer. By my 8th week of using the R+F lash boost, my lashes were noticeably both longer and thicker. I felt confident enough with just mascara and no longer needed to use false lashes. I’m currently on my 4th month of using lash boost and wow, just WOW!!! My results are amazing! My eyelashes touch my eyebrows and they are getting so much darker and fuller. R+F lash boost serum cost $150.00 a bottle, and I’m only on my second bottle as I’m in my 4th month of use. Which it’s really not that expensive if you break the cost down. If you still would rather have lash extensions the R+F lash boost can help you grow thicker lashes to make your extensions look that much better as you can only put extensions on the natural lashes that you have. Which is awesome cause it doesn’t take away from the lash extensions business either, it boosts it lol!
I’m so excited to see what my lashes will look like after using it for a full year.

I am not a consultant or getting paid for this product review. I’m just a happy customer amazed at my results. If you don’t know a R+F consultant and would like more info on how to order through my contact, email me at nalani.garza@yahoo.com
My fellow dancer Friend Hoapili Sing is a pastors wife and stay at home mommy of two boys. I love that I have a chance to support her small business to allow her to bless her beautiful family who serves so many in our community.

Check out my result photos…

Bee Mine

Happy Heart Day! When I was a little girl, I remember growing up always wishing that my birthday was on Valentine’s Day. I love the hearts, flowers, candy, and all the things that Valentine’s Day brings. I’d think to myself: “How cool would that be?! To have your Birthday associated with all that fun stuff?! I do not wish my birthday was on Valentine’s Day anymore, but, now I’m just thankful that I get a day to emphasize my LOVE for the men in my life. V-day is also the day before Hoku and I went on our first date. (You could say it is our dating anniversary). I get two back-to-back days of all that sweet-heart filled Mushy stuff!

We read it in scripture, we hear it in sermons, but I never could fully grasp the concept of how God could love and love us so unconditionally! He loves us NO MATTER WHAT! Once I became a mom, I have a better sense of the weight of His perfect love. We are His beloved! Even our love for our own children falls short in comparison to how much God loves you and I! It’s so crazy to fathom! I will always thank my boys for helping me to better understand God’s love! They teach me things everyday.

Whether your worldly expectations are met on Valentine’s Day or not, just remember how much you are valued and treasured by the One who has paid the ultimate sacrifice for us all! Happy Valentine’s Day. You are so loved!

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Wild and three

As I sit here writing thank-you cards for Zion’s 3rd Birthday party last month, I realized that I didn’t get to share it here on the blog. When I throw parties, the first thing that comes to mind is how do I make it enjoyable for all of our guests? I’ve learned that parties can either be a burden or a blessing, I choose for it to be a blessing and use it as a chance to serve others. It’s always my top priority to make everyone feel as comfortable and relaxed as they can be. Especially for the moms that have to watch their little ones by themselves.
I truly enjoy planning all the details and prepping for a party. Pinterest has forever changed the game for party planners, but, it can also sometimes make me feel overwhelmed and seem as if I’m not doing enough. When preparing for Zion’s Party, I tried to keep it as simple as I could and try and not to sweat the small stuff. Some of my friends joked that my party was not simple (lol), but, I guess in relation to the perfect Pinterest world, it was as simple as I would have liked.

We decided to go with a Drive-in movie theme. Zion’s birthday is so close to Christmas, so I went with a woodsy + lumberjack plaid feel. Being how the theme was a drive-in, Hoku made each individual child a car out of cardboard boxes. When the kids arrived, they decorated and personalized their cars with stickers, markers, and created their name on a license plate. I feared that none of the kids would actually sit in their cars and that it wouldn’t have been used. But, to my surprise, the kids loved it and they all sat in it during the movie. For food, we ordered pizza from Costco and had lots of snacks and desserts in our concession stand. The party wouldn’t have been a success without Honolulu party rentals. They provided a tent, chairs, projector +screen, and popcorn machine. They gave us an amazing deal and they were very professional. Honolulu party rentals have an awesome variety of bouncy houses and other things we didn’t have at our party, but you should really consider them for your next event if you live on the island of Oahu.

With only Hoku and I setting up the party, plus trying to keep the house clean and orderly with the two kiddos, it made it a little stressful. Then you have the feelings of: “I’m never doing this again!”, kept ringing in my head (lol). After all our family and friends came and seeing the enjoyment and even hearing the feedback on how much fun they had, it really made it all worthwhile. It reminded me of why we even threw the party in the first place, To celebrate our precious Zion. It was also to serve and show our appreciation to those who have played such a big role in helping us steward and raise him up these last 3 years.

Happiest of New Years Friends!

What does your 2017 look like?
Instead of resolutions, Hoku and I usually pick one word and live by that word all year long. Last year, we chose to live intentionally: To be intentional in our growing relationship with Jesus, and to be more intentional with our friendships. There’s a big difference in having good intentions and actually living them out daily. We stuck with it all through 2016 and it has really shaped my character. For the first time, I feel proud of my self and the path our family is on. I still feel there is room for growth! We will be continuing to live by the word “intentional” on top of the goals we have set individually, in our marriage, with the boys, and as a family!

A year ago I read Bob Goff’s “Love Does” book for the first time. I’m planning on reading it again this week. Bob Goff shows some amazing examples on how to love extravagantly. I discovered a newfound joy in helping others out of love. When you love someone you just do whatever it takes to show them that love. This book has given me a new perspective, not just with my family and friends, but, in how I show love and compassion to complete strangers. If you’re looking for a new read this new year, this book is a definite must!

Merry Christmas

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas! I have been Praying a blessing over all of you this season! Thank you so much for supporting my blog. Your encouragement goes beyond words, and I am so grateful! Have a beautiful day Praising our King Jesus Christ!

Merry Christmas with Love,
Nalani and her boys💙
